Gender Affirming Care
What is it?
Care “designed to support and affirm an individual’s gender identity” and encompasses a range of different interventions; social, psychological, medical, behavioral (Boyle, 2022)
Purpose: help gender diverse folx align various aspects of their lives with their gender and live happily, authentically, and safely
What is it not:
Gender affirming care is NOT conversion therapy
It is not immediately deciding or forcing anyone to start medical treatment they aren’t prepared for or willing to undergo
It is not working to “fix” or “repair” and the focus is never ever on the gender diverse person being broken
